Warm Floors

Warm Feet equals a Smiley Face

It’s that time if year when those who have underfloor heating are happy campers and those who don’t wish they did. It’s no secret that we are embedded in the heart of winter, a time when the benefits of underfloor heating have never felt so good. Radiant floor heating is so much more comfortable than the ubiquitous forced air that makes you go “ahhh” when you first experience it. Warm heated floors will make you want to move your television to that room where you have the system installed.

Floor heating systems come in either electric radiant systems that utilize heat cable or hydronic systems, where heated water is circulated through tubing installed under the finish surface. Electric systems are far more common as they are more economical to install and generally provide a much quicker warm up. Heat radiates upwards from the floor into the room where you feel it and isn’t wasted at the top of the room like warm air from forced air systems. There is no noise from a fan and no drafts of cold air to further dry your skin. Electric radiant heat is the answer to that room where you want to hang but don’t because it’s just too cold. Heated floors are the single most beneficial addition to a home – unless perhaps, you live somewhere along the equator.

Under where? Under there.

Underfloor Heat Gives You Warmth Under Your Feet

Why is it that words piggy-backing the word under get such a bad rap? Words such as underbelly, underprivileged, underhanded, underachiever or the underworld, never evoke a truly positive feeling. That is until now. When you marry under and floor and then follow that by heat, you get the wonderful warm and fuzzy concept of underfloor heating. Now putting the word under something is a great way to achieve warm floors and maximize your home’s heating potential. Using electric radiant floor heat puts the heat where it can be most efficient – under your floor.

Underfloor heating can be placed under tile, carpet, vinyl, and hardwood floors. Electric radiant floor heating systems provide safe and evenly distributed heat. Don’t want to commit this idea to your entire home just yet? Start by installing underfloor heat under your kitchen or custom-sized bathroom. When you realize how much you love it, you’ll surely branch out from under your pocket book and plan further affordable installations. Finally we can put the much maligned word under to great use. So stop being the underdog and undertake an underfloor heating installation in your home and finally have your heat where it belongs….underfoot.

Electric Radiant Heat for Your Remodeling Job

January 05, 2009 00:01 AM  BY  BENSON RICKS

Heating up Your Home Remodeling Project

So you have been perusing the magazines for years now, getting ideas for your long awaited remodel project. Make sure you don’t overlook one of the most rewarding additions to your construction design, radiant floor heating.

Installing electric radiant heat cable under bathroom floor.Bathroom remodels are rather common. It’s relatively easy and very rewarding as a fresh bathroom design can greatly enhance comfort and efficiency. It's hard to think of a better addition to this project than radiant floor heating. Usually in the form of electric radiant heat, mats of Danfoss GX cable can be easily attached to the sub-floor and then the finish surface applied over that. In floor heating is that easy. On a scale of effort it’s a two and on a scale of comfort it’s a ten. Walking into the bathroom with bare feet will never be the same again. No cringing involved. You may find your collection of spot rugs are of more use in the garage.

Radiant floor heat comes in different forms. It’s the same principle that is used in heated driveways, where hydronic systems (tubes with heated water) or electric heat cable is embedded in the pavement to heat the driveway and melt the falling snow. (Perhaps, installing a heated driveway can be your next home improvement project.)

In floor heating will separate a nice remodel from a great one. Don’t miss the opportunity to make this enhancement to your home. It will increase your comfort level as well as the value of your home, and you'll enjoy it for many years to come.
