Raise the Comfort Level with Underfloor HeatingThe concept of radiant heat has been around since the days of the Roman Empire, but have you experienced the comfort of a heated floor yet? Radiant heated floors are an alternative way of providing heat for any particular room. They utilize a grid of heat cable underneath the finish floor surface and the result is an efficient, warm floor that heats your home from the ground up.
Radiant floor heat provides unsurpassed comfort and eliminates the drafts and noise of a blowing furnace. These maintenance-free systems are fully automated and feature programmable thermostats so you can heat rooms individually as your needs warrant. If you have rooms that aren’t going to be used for awhile you can shut the heat off to those areas with a punch of a button. The ability to customize and heat zones individually greatly ads to the overall efficiency of the system. Heated floors can be installed in existing surfaces as well, so don’t feel you have missed out if you have just taken possession of a new home and it lacks the comfort of radiant floor heat. If you have access to the floor joists from below, you can retrofit your floors with an electric radiant floor heating system. |
The Affordable Luxury of Radiant Floor HeatI can’t think of a better time to talk about warm floors than January and February. What are warm floors? I’m sure by now you have heard of radiant heat. Electric radiant heat is a taste of heaven here on earth. Walk into a home with radiant floor heating and then one with traditional forced air heat. Tell me which one was more comfortable. There is no comparison in my opinion. Take your shoes off and soak it all in. The old adage that when your feet are warm you feel warm all over is so true. One of the key benefits of a floor heating system is that they are easily adaptable to your needs. You can set each room to maintain the temperature you want. Each room can have its own thermostat. Shutting down rooms that aren’t being used is as easy as pushing a button. Electric radiant heat utilizes heating cable installed under the finished floor surface. Each room then has its own sensor. If I were designing my next home it would most definitely have a heated floor. I’d sit and watch the snow come down and wiggle my sock clad feet around on the floor. |
The Smart, Modern way to Heat Your Home During the
coldest time of year it’s comforting to know that we
have ways of maintaining our comfort as we sit at home
in the evenings. One of the best ways of combating the
cold weather is through the use of heated floors. Radiant
floor heating is an energy-efficient, toasty way to
stay warm. When your home heating starts from the
ground up, you may be surprised how effective heating
your home this way is. Increased efficiency is also a product of these systems as the heat is applied where you need it. Unless you plan on putting your chair up on the ceiling you will enjoy the heat down low where you live and work. You can also heat each room independently as each “zone” will have its own thermostat. Try that with most forced air systems. Warm floors, as they have become known as, would be my first choice in a home heating system – hands down. If you haven’t experienced heated floors, do yourself that favor and try it. Chances are, your next call will be to arrange the installation.

Floor HeatWell, it’s on. The snow has begun to fall and we are into the season for the cold stuff. Seems I always scramble this time of year to find ways to stay warm. In addition to a nice fireplace, I’ve yet to discover a better way to stay comfortable than with an efficient radiant floor heating system. Radiant floor heating is the ideal way to provide heat for your home or business. It really is true that if you heat your feet you feel warm and comfortable all over. We are lucky to have these options these days. Radiant floor heating can also be installed in existing floors so don’t resign yourself to cold feet just because you aren’t building a new home soon. Installing floor heat will be well worth it even after the first winter. Floor heating systems are the thing to have these days and in my humble opinion, they should be standard in new homes. I have installed a few and would do it again if I were building another home soon. Heated floors use a system of heat cable installed under the finish surface that provide heat in total silence (without kicking up the dust like forced air systems do) and they can be set to maintain different temperatures in each room. You simply can’t go wrong by installing an electric floor heating system. |
Underfloor Heating Provides Warmth from Bottom to TopIt’s getting to be the time of season to start thinking about keeping warm during the winter months. The cold weather is coming and we all know it. I can’t think of a better way to keep comfortably warm than through the use of a radiant floor heating system. When you can isolate that heat low in the floor and warm those toes, you will be comfortable all over. Underfloor heat is more efficient in that it keeps the heat low where you can benefit from it. You aren’t wasting the heat up around the ceiling area. For me, radiant floor heating provides a much more comfortable heat than that of a traditional forced air heating system. With radiant floor heating, you don’t have the drafts and dust resulting from the blowing air. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that you can heat just the rooms that you want. Simply turn the heat off in the rooms that you aren’t using with the thermostat in those rooms. I know if I could build my dream home now it would have radiant floor heat throughout. I’d just sit and watch the snow come down while my feet are toasty on the warm tile floor. |
Electric Radiant Floor HeatIf the summer was a baseball season now is the final run down the stretch for the division title. Summer is generally considered the remodeling season since it is much easier to build during the good weather. Unfortunately, the good weather isn’t going to last much longer. Winter isn’t too far away and I hope your heating system is ready for the long, cold days ahead. Better yet, I hope you have an underfloor heat system installed in your home. Electric radiant floor heating is the cat’s meow when it comes to staying comfortable at home during winter's chilly nights.
Without question, radiant floor heating is the most comfortable form of heat. It is so true that when your feet are warm you feel warm all over. There really is no comparison to a conventional forced air system. Another benefit of installing radiant underfloor heat is that you can choose to heat only the rooms you frequently use, allowing you to save energy. It's a heat that can't be beat! |
Electric Floor Heating - the Clean, Comfortable Home Heating SupplementIn late August, it's still very warm out there, but the heat won’t be hanging around much longer. Doesn’t it seem like summer time always flies by in a hurry? Yes, winter weather will be here before you know it, and with that in mind, we turn our thoughts to keeping the home warm this winter. I’m sure you have heard of radiant floor heating. Electric radiant heat has got to be the best way to maintain comfortable, localized heat for your home. Radiant floor heating consists of installing a grid of heat cable within the subfloor. The finish surface, usually tile, is installed over that. Sensors installed along with the grid allow you to maintain a steady temperature in each room, using the programmable thermostat. The ability to program the floor heating system for different areas and rooms is an especially attractive feature for underfloor heating systems – not to mention the supreme, energy-efficient comfort. If you find yourself not using a room so much, you can simply turn the heat down in that room, thus avoiding unnecessary power draws. But for me, the comfort of radiant floor heating is far and away the best feature. If more people knew about the floor heating options available and how easy they are to install, these systems would become the standard, especially in bathrooms and kitchens where tile and hardwood surfaces are common. |
The Joy of Warm FeetNext month brings the beginning of autumn, which means that winter is not too far behind. Hopefully you have made the necessary adjustments to your home to ensure that you remain toasty warm this winter. I can’t think of a better way to do that than with radiant floor heating. I’m sure you have heard of electric floor heating systems. You know, the ones where a mesh of wire (heat cable) is placed beneath the finish surface of the floor. Underfloor heating systems offer so much comfort you almost can’t wait for the cold weather to hit. Yes, there's nothing quite like 'em. Electric radiant floor heating provides a way to warm each room to your desired level. If you aren’t using a room very much, there is no need to heat it to the same level as the rest of the house. This is a great way of saving some hard-earned cash. Floor heating offers comforts unmatched by a conventional forced air heating system. Heating the floor not only makes you feel warm and comfy but it doesn’t waste all that heat at the ceiling like forced-air systems. You’ll be able to smile comfortably when you read your recent utility bill. In addition, these systems provide no noise. There’s no fan kicking on and blowing dust and drafts. All in all, radiant floor heat is my favorite form of warm. |
Heated Floors - Comfort at Elevated Levels
Floor heating systems come in two basic flavors. One is hydronic radiant heat where tubing is installed under the finish floor surface. These tubes circulate heated water, which in turn warms the floor. These systems are fine, and often have a slightly lower operating cost for large floor areas, but the more common type of residential floor heating is electric radiant heat. Electric radiant heat utilizes a heat cable grid that is laid out on the sub floor. (The cable is also available pre-spaced, woven into mats that can be easily rolled out during installation.) The finish floor surface is installed over this and the heat cable warms the floor. Electric floor heating systems are generally easier to install and aren’t quite as involved as a hydronic system.
But it’s the comfort these systems afford that cause them to stand out and be a desired form of heat. Boy oh boy when your feet are warm it’s really true that you feel warm all over. There is also no noise and blowing dust from a forced air furnace. These are all great features and together they add up to what is fast becoming a preferred heat source. Do yourself a favor and look into these underfloor heat systems when you are planning your next building project. Even if you are just remodeling or adding a room, you’ll find that the inclusion of a radiant floor heating system will bring smiles to your face for years to come. |
Efficient Warmth - Underfloor Heating Raises the BarIf you have experienced the comfort of a heated floor you know that it gets your attention. People who haven’t enjoyed them before may very pleasantly surprised when they notice heat coming from the floor. Floor heating isn’t entirely new; it has been around for many years but for some reason it hasn’t become the standard, but that may be changing.
Radiant floor heating comes in electric or hydronic heat systems. Hydronic systems utilize tubing and water, where water is warmed and circulated through the network of tubing placed below the finish floor surface. With electric floor heating systems, heat cable (available individually or in pre-spaced mesh mats), is placed over the subfloor and then covered with the finish surface. Radiant heat cable can be installed under just about any type of flooring. Heated tile floors are especially popular, and are particularly common in bathrooms or kitchens. Stepping out of the shower on to a heated tile floor is so much cozier than stepping on to a cold floor surface. In addition to the comfort levels of a heated floor, other benefits can be a reduced heating cost as you don’t need to crank the furnace up quite so high. Just heat the few rooms you need with the floor heating system you have. If you haven’t experienced this system, check it out. You will want it in your next home. |
When your feet are warm it is so much
easier to be comfortable. Underfloor heat is a smart,
modern way of providing heat for the home. Unlike forced air
systems that circulate heated air, warm floors heat from the
floor up meaning there are no allergens being kicked
into the air or drafts of heat being wasted up at the
ceiling.
While
radiant floor heating systems are typically installed
in new construction projects, did you know that they
can also be installed over existing floors? A grid of
heat cable is laid out and then your finish surface is
installed over that. Easier than you might think. And
when the snow starts flying you will be so glad you
installed radiant heat.
Electric radiant floor heating adds so much more to the
comfort of a home than a common forced air system.
Underfloor heat warms you in a way that the ubiquitous
forced air systems cannot, and the heat is distributed
much more efficiently than forced air systems as well.
