Floor HeatWell, it’s on. The snow has begun to fall and we are into the season for the cold stuff. Seems I always scramble this time of year to find ways to stay warm. In addition to a nice fireplace, I’ve yet to discover a better way to stay comfortable than with an efficient radiant floor heating system. Radiant floor heating is the ideal way to provide heat for your home or business. It really is true that if you heat your feet you feel warm and comfortable all over. We are lucky to have these options these days. Radiant floor heating can also be installed in existing floors so don’t resign yourself to cold feet just because you aren’t building a new home soon. Installing floor heat will be well worth it even after the first winter. Floor heating systems are the thing to have these days and in my humble opinion, they should be standard in new homes. I have installed a few and would do it again if I were building another home soon. Heated floors use a system of heat cable installed under the finish surface that provide heat in total silence (without kicking up the dust like forced air systems do) and they can be set to maintain different temperatures in each room. You simply can’t go wrong by installing an electric floor heating system. |
Underfloor Heating Provides Warmth from Bottom to TopIt’s getting to be the time of season to start thinking about keeping warm during the winter months. The cold weather is coming and we all know it. I can’t think of a better way to keep comfortably warm than through the use of a radiant floor heating system. When you can isolate that heat low in the floor and warm those toes, you will be comfortable all over. Underfloor heat is more efficient in that it keeps the heat low where you can benefit from it. You aren’t wasting the heat up around the ceiling area. For me, radiant floor heating provides a much more comfortable heat than that of a traditional forced air heating system. With radiant floor heating, you don’t have the drafts and dust resulting from the blowing air. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that you can heat just the rooms that you want. Simply turn the heat off in the rooms that you aren’t using with the thermostat in those rooms. I know if I could build my dream home now it would have radiant floor heat throughout. I’d just sit and watch the snow come down while my feet are toasty on the warm tile floor. |
The Inner Beauty of Underfloor Heating Beauty is in the
eye of the beholder, but some beauty truly can’t be
seen. Such is the case with underfloor heating. Its
real beauty lays beneath, literally beneath, your
floors. In a very real way your floor heating systems
proves that it is what’s inside that counts. The
real inner beauty of floor heating is that it heats
efficiently and quietly. Radiant underfloor heating
systems operate without hassle and offer maintenance
free worries as they run silently, without user intervention. Achieving warm floors is easier than ever because underfloor heating products can be installed beneath tile, carpet, and hardwood floors. Underfloor heat provides safe and evenly distributed heat through your home. Underfloor heating is gaining popularity not simply because of its inner beauty. Underfloor heating has proven ideal as a cost-effective heating solution for all areas of your home. Underfloor heating is available with fully programmable thermostats and is specifically tailored to the space you need it to work in. Whether your kitchen has a draft or the basement bedrooms never warm up, underfloor heating is key to targeting areas you need to heat. Smaller spaces like hallways and bathrooms are another great place to start if you are nervous about committing to the entire floor space. Start small, build large and find the inner beauty of underfloor heating. You’ll be glad you did. |
Radiant Heating Systems Provide Maintenance-Free OperationThe power of the human body rarely surprises me anymore. This week I read about a young girl in London who had a donor heart grafted onto her own ailing heart after suffering heart failure as an infant. Her own heart – the beautiful beating, pumping heart she was born with – later healed itself enough, allowing her doctors to remove the donor heart. Who knew the command of the human heart could be so astounding? Needless to say, I was surprised, and pleasantly so, with the power of the human body. Wouldn’t it be nice if things in our homes worked that way?
If your refrigerator goes on the blink, you simply hook up your neighbors for a day or two and the respite revives your own ice box, bringing it back to full health. Or your heater goes kaput on the morning of the forecasted ice storm and you plug it into the “heater rejuvenator” for the ultimate home improvement. Sadly our “things” aren't meant to fix themselves. Radiant floor heating gives a little extra peace of mind however. Having underfloor heating is a simple way to shore up your heating system. Underfloor radiant heat systems are energy-efficient and easy to install. If your heater has gone to the giant garbage heap in the sky or is getting up there in years, it would be prudent to invest in a floor heating system now and avoid the heartache of a cold winter later. Radiant heating systems provide ultimate comfort and maintenance-free operation, so even if it won't heal itself like the human heart, it won't break your heart by breaking down. You'll be saying “I heart underfloor heat” in no time. |

Efficient Warmth - Underfloor Heating Raises the BarIf you have experienced the comfort of a heated floor you know that it gets your attention. People who haven’t enjoyed them before may very pleasantly surprised when they notice heat coming from the floor. Floor heating isn’t entirely new; it has been around for many years but for some reason it hasn’t become the standard, but that may be changing.
Radiant floor heating comes in electric or hydronic heat systems. Hydronic systems utilize tubing and water, where water is warmed and circulated through the network of tubing placed below the finish floor surface. With electric floor heating systems, heat cable (available individually or in pre-spaced mesh mats), is placed over the subfloor and then covered with the finish surface. Radiant heat cable can be installed under just about any type of flooring. Heated tile floors are especially popular, and are particularly common in bathrooms or kitchens. Stepping out of the shower on to a heated tile floor is so much cozier than stepping on to a cold floor surface. In addition to the comfort levels of a heated floor, other benefits can be a reduced heating cost as you don’t need to crank the furnace up quite so high. Just heat the few rooms you need with the floor heating system you have. If you haven’t experienced this system, check it out. You will want it in your next home. |
Comfort and Efficiency go Together
There is no better way to chase the chills than by warming your feet on a toasty heated floor. Electric radiant floor heating utilizes a heat cable mesh or grid system that is installed over the subfloor. Once fastened down the finish surface is applied over that and you have an efficient, comfortable heated floor that is fully programmable. Underfloor heat can be used in conjunction with a traditional forced air system or separately. Forget the potential of added efficiency, I can't express enough the elevated comfort levels these systems provide. If your feet are warm you will be warm all over. Underfloor heating is one feature I would insist on if at all possible when scheduling a remodel or new construction. The increasing popularity of underfloor heating is a testament that it's a modern feature whose time has come. |
Staying Warm and Comfortable when it's Cold OutsideWe are still in the middle of winter and it just plain looks cold outside. Every time you step outside you feel a chill to the bone. The perfect indoor remedy for this is a toasty, radiant heated floor. Underfloor heat is just what you need to get back up to speed when you have been out in the cold. It’s hard not to purr when thinking about it. Electric radiant floor heat is quite easy to install and it’s a shame homes don't come “standard” with warm floors. I suspect heated floors will be much more common in the years to come. Radiant floor heating utilizes a cable mesh system (such as the Danfoss LX mat or Ideal Heat's Warm Ribbon) laid out on the subfloor. Your finish flooring is then applied over the heat cable. The result is instant-favorite-room syndrome, guaranteed. The comfort of warm floors is unmatched. When your feet are warm, you feel warm all over. It’s also more likely to be an efficient heat source, as you just need to heat the lower portion of the room where you hang out. (Forced air systems stir up dust and tend to heat the top half of the room.) If you have tall ceilings, warmth emanating from the floor will be even more noticeable – and enjoyable. You don't end up wasting all that heat way up near the ceiling where only the spiders can enjoy it. If you haven’t experienced radiant floor heating systems, do yourself a big favor and check it out. If not for this winter you can get one in plenty of time to enjoy it next year, and even year 'round. One thing is certain, the weather will be cold again next winter, so why not be prepared by installing a radiant heated floor system? |
Underfloor WarmthHaving experienced underfloor heating I fully confess that I am prejudice towards it. I make no excuse or denial. Radiant floor heating systems are the ideal heating systems. Underfloor heat simply provides the most comfort imaginable, especially for tiled flooring. While tiled floors are often thought of as beautiful, yet cold during the winter, what if it was a heated tile floor? Combined with the beauty of a ceramic tiled floor, underfloor heat turns a home into a palace.
Underfloor heating systems are quite easy to install. Radiant floor heating has a very high payoff in the comfort department and may even allow you to turn the forced air system down as well, saving you some money there. If you haven’t experienced a warm floor don’t miss this home enhancement. |
Underfloor Heat Gives You Warmth Under Your Feet Why is it that
words piggy-backing the word under get such a bad
rap? Words such as underbelly, underprivileged, underhanded,
underachiever or the underworld, never evoke a truly
positive feeling. That is until now. When you marry
under and floor and then follow that by heat,
you get the wonderful warm and fuzzy concept of
underfloor heating. Now putting the word
under something is a great way to achieve warm
floors and maximize your home’s heating
potential. Using electric radiant floor heat puts the heat
where it can be most efficient – under
your floor. Underfloor heating can be placed under tile, carpet, vinyl, and hardwood floors. Electric radiant floor heating systems provide safe and evenly distributed heat. Don’t want to commit this idea to your entire home just yet? Start by installing underfloor heat under your kitchen or custom-sized bathroom. When you realize how much you love it, you’ll surely branch out from under your pocket book and plan further affordable installations. Finally we can put the much maligned word under to great use. So stop being the underdog and undertake an underfloor heating installation in your home and finally have your heat where it belongs….underfoot. |
Electric radiant floor heating adds so much more to the
comfort of a home than a common forced air system.
Underfloor heat warms you in a way that the ubiquitous
forced air systems cannot, and the heat is distributed
much more efficiently than forced air systems as well.
After coming in from being in the cold all
day I can't help but think of a better way to get
warmed up than to bask in the heat of a warm, radiant heated
floor. Underfloor heat (a radiant floor heating
system) is just what you need after spending a day in
the cold. They don't call it radiant floor heat for
nothing. The heat radiates up to you, and boy does it feel
good.
Floor heating comes in two basic forms, electric
radiant heat and hydronic. Electric radiant floors
have heat cable installed under the finish surface.
