Beat the End-of-Winter Blues with the Luxury of Heated FloorsWell, it’s official. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and cursed us all with six more weeks of winter. While we’re all ready for spring, we have to find a way to live with the remainder of the winter months, and what better way to weather the cold than with heated floors? That’s right, radiant floor heat is a little slice of luxury that anyone can afford. Winter can be long and oft times arduous, but with electric radiant floor heat, you’re sure to find sanctuary to help you withstand the dregs of winter.
Radiant floor heating systems can be installed in any type of home, in any type of room, for any type of budget. Whether your feet are craving heat in the bathroom, the bedroom, the kitchen, or the basement, you can treat them to a heat that puts traditional forced air or baseboard heating systems to shame. Of course, these months after Christmas can be pretty tight financially, so a luxury like heated floors might seem out of reach. The good news, however, is that they are affordable—surprisingly so—and with low installation and even lower operation costs, you can install radiant floors and find that last reason to stay awake until spring. Don’t let the winter months get you down. Spring is close, so find that one last piece of sanity to get you through the next couple of months with heated floors. You definitely won’t regret it. |
The Smart, Modern way to Heat Your Home During the
coldest time of year it’s comforting to know that we
have ways of maintaining our comfort as we sit at home
in the evenings. One of the best ways of combating the
cold weather is through the use of heated floors. Radiant
floor heating is an energy-efficient, toasty way to
stay warm. When your home heating starts from the
ground up, you may be surprised how effective heating
your home this way is. Increased efficiency is also a product of these systems as the heat is applied where you need it. Unless you plan on putting your chair up on the ceiling you will enjoy the heat down low where you live and work. You can also heat each room independently as each “zone” will have its own thermostat. Try that with most forced air systems. Warm floors, as they have become known as, would be my first choice in a home heating system – hands down. If you haven’t experienced heated floors, do yourself that favor and try it. Chances are, your next call will be to arrange the installation.

Safer Heating Solutions for Little People With the advent
of colder temperatures, there are plenty of reasons for
concern for parents of young children, and radiant
underfloor heating systems may be one way to help
smooth our brows. Anyone who spends time at home with
little people knows how much time they spend down low,
whether scooting, sitting or standing barefooted on cold
hardwood floors in front of drafty, dusty heat
registers. As cold, cough and flu season approaches,
this point becomes even more contentious.
Once installed, underfloor heating is an extremely affordable and comfortable heating solution. Radiant heat cables can be easily installed under almost any type of flooring, whether new or existing; and once in place, they are virtually maintenance-free. Unlike conventional forced-air systems, underfloor heating systems are room-specific. You can choose to heat only high-traffic areas, or heat all rooms at once. The biggest savings with underfloor heating systems, however, comes after you stop receiving that monthly gas bill. In the winter months, that can add up to a lot of college tuition! |
Make your house a warm, dry and healthy home with heated floors.Heated floors are on everybody’s wish lists these days and rightfully so. They’re the most efficient way to heat your home while keeping your budget in check, and any other heating system would be hard pressed to beat the unparalleled comfort heated floors have to offer. What you may not know, however, is that heated floors also offer numerous health benefits. That’s right—heated floors not only make you feel good on the outside but on the inside too. Studies have shown that warm and dry homes have definite health benefits. After investigating the effects of well-heated homes, scientists at bmj.com concluded that having a warm home resulted in reduction of poor health, weezing, sick days taken off of school or work, and visits to the doctor for respiratory problems. Heated floors also promote good circulation by keeping your feet warm. Yes, toasty feet really are more than a luxury—they’re good for you too! Additionally, heated floors use radiant heat, meaning there are no vents pushing out harmful allergens and bacteria. Instead, you just get perfectly even heat—no dirt required. Radiant floor heating systems also rid you of those pesky dry throats, mouths, and noses—a common problem with traditional heating. The good news is that creating a warm, dry and healthy home is easy thanks to heated floors. Radiant floor heating warms your home up more efficiently by warming up objects in the room instead of the air, which just rises to the top of the room and gets cold. Even better, electric radiant floor heat is zone-specific, meaning you can control what rooms you heat up, keeping you and your wallet happy and healthy. Who knew a heated floor could do so much more than just warm your feet? With such great health benefits, there’s really no excuse to wait. Install your heated floor today to ensure a warm—and healthy—winter. |
Heating a Room from the Ground Up, Just Makes Sense. If you’re like me, the first thing you reach for as you get out of bed in the winter are your slippers. Then you check the thermostat to see if the room is really as cold as it feels. The problem isn’t in your furnace, and it isn’t your circulation; it’s your floors. The simple fact is heat rises.
The other thing
you’ll notice or won’t notice with radiant
heated floors, is the constant white noise of the
furnace. A heated floor silently goes about
it’s job of heating the room without a lot of noisy
commotion from burners lighting up and fans blasting
autumn dust throughout the house. Do yourself and your toes a favor and look into how easy and affordable it can be to install heated floors this year. You’ll love the way you feel, and you’ll love not having to hunt around for your slippers. |
Comfort and Efficiency go Together
There is no better way to chase the chills than by warming your feet on a toasty heated floor. Electric radiant floor heating utilizes a heat cable mesh or grid system that is installed over the subfloor. Once fastened down the finish surface is applied over that and you have an efficient, comfortable heated floor that is fully programmable. Underfloor heat can be used in conjunction with a traditional forced air system or separately. Forget the potential of added efficiency, I can't express enough the elevated comfort levels these systems provide. If your feet are warm you will be warm all over. Underfloor heating is one feature I would insist on if at all possible when scheduling a remodel or new construction. The increasing popularity of underfloor heating is a testament that it's a modern feature whose time has come. |
Staying Warm and Comfortable when it's Cold OutsideWe are still in the middle of winter and it just plain looks cold outside. Every time you step outside you feel a chill to the bone. The perfect indoor remedy for this is a toasty, radiant heated floor. Underfloor heat is just what you need to get back up to speed when you have been out in the cold. It’s hard not to purr when thinking about it. Electric radiant floor heat is quite easy to install and it’s a shame homes don't come “standard” with warm floors. I suspect heated floors will be much more common in the years to come. Radiant floor heating utilizes a cable mesh system (such as the Danfoss LX mat or Ideal Heat's Warm Ribbon) laid out on the subfloor. Your finish flooring is then applied over the heat cable. The result is instant-favorite-room syndrome, guaranteed. The comfort of warm floors is unmatched. When your feet are warm, you feel warm all over. It’s also more likely to be an efficient heat source, as you just need to heat the lower portion of the room where you hang out. (Forced air systems stir up dust and tend to heat the top half of the room.) If you have tall ceilings, warmth emanating from the floor will be even more noticeable – and enjoyable. You don't end up wasting all that heat way up near the ceiling where only the spiders can enjoy it. If you haven’t experienced radiant floor heating systems, do yourself a big favor and check it out. If not for this winter you can get one in plenty of time to enjoy it next year, and even year 'round. One thing is certain, the weather will be cold again next winter, so why not be prepared by installing a radiant heated floor system? |
Underfloor WarmthHaving experienced underfloor heating I fully confess that I am prejudice towards it. I make no excuse or denial. Radiant floor heating systems are the ideal heating systems. Underfloor heat simply provides the most comfort imaginable, especially for tiled flooring. While tiled floors are often thought of as beautiful, yet cold during the winter, what if it was a heated tile floor? Combined with the beauty of a ceramic tiled floor, underfloor heat turns a home into a palace.
Underfloor heating systems are quite easy to install. Radiant floor heating has a very high payoff in the comfort department and may even allow you to turn the forced air system down as well, saving you some money there. If you haven’t experienced a warm floor don’t miss this home enhancement. |
Radiant
floor heating is one of the simplest but greatest
pleasures that’s still a best kept secret. Rather
than using dusty ducts to heat your home, radiant
floor heating systems heat your floor and the objects
in the room, creating a perfectly even heat that, in my
opinion, can’t be rivaled.
When your feet are warm it is so much
easier to be comfortable. Underfloor heat is a smart,
modern way of providing heat for the home. Unlike forced air
systems that circulate heated air, warm floors heat from the
floor up meaning there are no allergens being kicked
into the air or drafts of heat being wasted up at the
ceiling.
What a blessing it would be to have
heated floors throughout my home! I’m thinking my
four-year-old would not even balk at the thought of
exiting the tub if we had radiant heat installed
underneath our cold ceramic tile bathroom floor. And I
wouldn’t have to worry about constantly covering my
son’s bare feet (which, by the way, he insists
on keeping sock-free as much as possible). Runny noses
and watery eyes are enough of a concern already!
Heated
floors, however, allow heat to start where it’s
most needed and then radiate up through the room. With
radiant heated floors, the first thing to get warm are those
cold toes, followed by the rest of the room. If you
have small children or pets, they spend a lot more
time close to the floor than you do. They’ll
feel the difference of a heated floor right away.
After coming in from being in the cold all
day I can't help but think of a better way to get
warmed up than to bask in the heat of a warm, radiant heated
floor. Underfloor heat (a radiant floor heating
system) is just what you need after spending a day in
the cold. They don't call it radiant floor heat for
nothing. The heat radiates up to you, and boy does it feel
good.
Floor heating comes in two basic forms, electric
radiant heat and hydronic. Electric radiant floors
have heat cable installed under the finish surface.
