Give Your Hard-Working Feet the Gift of Radiant Floor Heat

Our feet do a lot of work. In fact, I would go so far to say that they are the hardest working part of our body, and they take a lot of abuse throughout the day. It’s a pity we don’t show our feet a little more love. And I bet that if your feet could write you a letter, they’d tell you that the only thing they could ask for is radiant floor heating.

Heated floors are hands down the  number one luxury you can give to your feet. Think about it—no more stepping on frozen hardwood floors in the morning or being shocked by frigid tiles after the shower. What more could your feet possibly want?

Cut on the Costs, not the Luxury

There’s no escaping it. The economy is on the fritz, and we’re all feeling the heat to some degree. Given the current financial climate, we can’t all go out and buy a brand new home just because we’re sick of our current one. Fortunately, there’s a quick and affordable way to spice up your current home that will leave you feeling like you just moved into a brand new luxury mansion: radiant floor heat.

Heated floor in kitchen. Heated floors turn an old, tired home into a luxurious refuge in no time at all. Once you feel the delightfully warm floors on your feet after you get of bed or the shower, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a first-class bed and breakfast and living in the lap of luxury.

Radiant floor heating systems are easy and affordable to install, operate, and maintain, something we can all appreciate in these tough times, and there are several floor heating options available. Once you are ready to move to a new home, your radiant floor heating system will greatly increase your home’s value, making it a hot commodity on the home market.

So rather than buy a brand new home, improve the value of the one you’ve got with radiant floor heating. It’ll save you heaps of money while still making you feel like you’ve spoiled yourself. What more could you possibly want?

Heated Floors - A Better Way of Heating

January 11, 2010 00:01 AM  BY  BENSON RICKS

The Smart, Modern way to Heat Your Home

During the coldest time of year it’s comforting to know that we have ways of maintaining our comfort as we sit at home in the evenings. One of the best ways of combating the cold weather is through the use of heated floors. Radiant floor heating is an energy-efficient, toasty way to stay warm. When your home heating starts from the ground up, you may be surprised how effective heating your home this way is. Radiant floor heating system being installed under hardwood. When your feet are warm it is so much easier to be comfortable. Underfloor heat is a smart, modern way of providing heat for the home. Unlike forced air systems that circulate heated air, warm floors heat from the floor up meaning there are no allergens being kicked into the air or drafts of heat being wasted up at the ceiling. Heated floor systems are also silent as well so you won’t need to relocate when the fan kicks on.

Increased efficiency is also a product of these systems as the heat is applied where you need it. Unless you plan on putting your chair up on the ceiling you will enjoy the heat down low where you live and work. You can also heat each room independently as each “zone” will have its own thermostat. Try that with most forced air systems.

Warm floors, as they have become known as, would be my first choice in a home heating system – hands down. If you haven’t experienced heated floors, do yourself that favor and try it. Chances are, your next call will be to arrange the installation.

Heat Where You Need it

December 01, 2009 00:12 AM  BY  BENSON RICKS

Floor Heat

Well, it’s on. The snow has begun to fall and we are into the season for the cold stuff. Seems I always scramble this time of year to find ways to stay warm. In addition to a nice fireplace, I’ve yet to discover a better way to stay comfortable than with an efficient radiant floor heating system. Radiant floor heating is the ideal way to provide heat for your home or business. It really is true that if you heat your feet you feel warm and comfortable all over.

We are lucky to have these options these days. Radiant floor heating can also be installed in existing floors so don’t resign yourself to cold feet just because you aren’t building a new home soon. Installing floor heat will be well worth it even after the first winter. Floor heating systems are the thing to have these days and in my humble opinion, they should be standard in new homes. I have installed a few and would do it again if I were building another home soon. Heated floors use a system of heat cable installed under the finish surface that provide heat in total silence (without kicking up the dust like forced air systems do) and they can be set to maintain different temperatures in each room. You simply can’t go wrong by installing an electric floor heating system.

Falling Leaves, Falling Prices

September 30, 2009 00:09 AM  BY  AMY MORBY

Make a Little Wiggle Room in Your Budget this Fall with Radiant Floor Heating

Well, it’s finally here. Fall has finally made its appearance with chilly weather and falling leaves. If you have radiant heated floors, however, then the leaves aren’t the only thing falling this season—your heating bills might be too.

Radiant heated floor in kitchen. Radiant floor heating is changing the way you heat your home this winter while also changing how much you pay for home heating. Heated floors are the most efficient way to heat your home. Instead of using forced air to heat the room, radiant floor heat uses top-of-the-line heating cables to warm your floors, which then heat the objects around the room, giving you a perfectly even heat.

It may sound luxurious, but electric radiant floor heat is actually more affordable than you’d think. Because heated floors heat your rooms so efficiently, you don’t have to leave them on as long to get the same results as your conventional heating methods. What’s more, radiant floor heating systems are zone-specific, meaning you can choose which rooms you heat, when you want them heated.

Additionally, radiant floor heating systems are virtually maintenance free. Once you install your heated floors, you won’t have to pay for any expensive maintenance, like changing furnace filters or fixing broken pilot lights. All you have to do is tell your radiant floor heating system when to turn on and in what room, and with absolutely no effort from you, you’ve got perfectly even, perfectly cozy heated floors.

So this fall, don’t wait around for your furnace to send your budget through the roof. Install radiant floor heating today and watch your costs fall and your comfort rise.

Radiant Heated Floors - Part II

May 29, 2009 00:05 AM  BY  LAURA CARTER

Warm up your home’s value, line your pockets and put the freeze on global warming (Part II)

Affordability aside, radiant floor heating is a more efficient way to stay warm. The heat generated by a typical forced air system is blown out and up, leaving chilly floors and feet behind. Heated floors, however, radiate heat from the floor up. Radiant heat spreads evenly throughout a room eliminating cold spots, drafts and those arctic blasts you may experience with a forced air system. Floor heating systems do not rely on blower fans either, making any room a cozy, quiet retreat.

Radiant floor heating mat being installed for heated bathroom floor.Floor heating is better for your health too. According to the EPA, air ducts present many hidden dangers, including visible mold, bug and/or rodent infestation, or clogs caused by excessive amounts of dust and debris that may actually be released into the air during furnace operation. The bad news—air duct cleaning may have little or no impact on these air quality issues. In fact, improper cleanings, including the application of chemical biocides or sealants, may pose even greater health risks to your health. Radiant floor heating systems do not require air ducts, reducing your reliance on forced air systems while contributing to the air quality in your home.

You may be feeling the financial heat. Now, more than ever, smart purchases, such as heated floors, make good sense. Whether you fancy yourself a penny pincher, a tree hugger or both, you can reap the rewards of floor heating, preserve your health and line your pockets!

For more tips on developing “wealthier” habits, check out Lehman’s May 27, 2009 post, “How to Spend Like a Frugal Millionaire” on Yahoo Finance. For more information on air duct cleaning and the dangers that may be lurking in your ventilation system, visit www.epa.gov.
